Smt. M. Lakshmi Devi was a prominent Indian National Congress leader who represented the Kalyandurg Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh. She was elected as an MLA twice from this constituency: first in 1972 and again in 1989. In the 1972 elections, she secured a significant victory with 27,150 votes, accounting for 70.38% of the total votes cast. Her political career also included serving as a minister in the Andhra Pradesh state government and being a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest decision-making body of the Indian National Congress.
In subsequent elections, Smt. M. Lakshmi Devi continued to be an active participant. In the 1978 elections, she contested but did not win. She made a significant comeback in 1989, reclaiming the Kalyandurg seat with 48,448 votes. However, in the 1994 elections, she faced a defeat, securing 28,983 votes against B.C. Govindappa of the Telugu Desam Party, who won with 85,061 votes.
Beyond her political endeavors, Smt. M. Lakshmi Devi was also known for her contributions to social welfare and community development in the Anantapur district. Her legacy continues to inspire many in the region.
Late Smt. M. Lakshmi Devi was an influential political figure who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and held the position of a former Minister.
